As with other denominations of this coin, the artwork featured on the 1/25 oz Gold Philharmonic Coin draws its inspiration from Vienna’s renowned orchestra and concert venue. Depicted on the obverse of the coin is an instrument that frequent concert attendees will recognize as the organ that sits in the Golden Hall of the Viennese Musikveirein. The image has been skillfully rendered so as to replicate every one of its architectural elements, including the sculpted cherubs that hover above its decorative molding. Printed in the areas surrounding the pipe organ are the coin’s weight, purity and denomination accompanied by its country and year of issue in the country’s native German language.
The reverse side of the coin displays an array of musical instruments in honor of the many talented musicians of this orchestra. Among the instruments incorporated into the design are a French horn, an oboe, a harp and a cello flank by four violins. Inscribed in an arched formation above the instruments are the words, “Weiner Philharmoniker,”
